Preparing for your exams

The lead up to exams is crucial for determining how successful you will be in your exams. There is a clear link between the amount of revision and the grades that students achieve.  Sadly, there is no shortcut.

Please use your time wisely to continue your revision and to fully prepare for the exams!

  • If you have not done so already, make yourself a revision timetable. Give yourself some days off but ensure that you can get through the work.
  • Make your revision time productive. The best way to remember your revision is to apply it.  It is so easy to fool yourself into thinking you are doing lots of revision when you are really just reading and reading, without taking in a single word.

Revision

Be active with your revision by:
  • reading and making notes;
  • doing spider diagrams of the concepts you have covered;
  • using the subject specification to ensure you are covering all you need;
  • working through exercises you have already done in class;
  • using SAM Learning and BBC Bite Size;
  • using past papers to practice exam techniques.

Please do not leave things to the last minute! If you do, remember that it is never too late to try and improve your exam score. It is surprising what you can soak up under pressure and the worst thing you can do is to tell yourself you cannot do it.  If you give up, you definitely will not pass.

On the day of your exam make sure you have a good breakfast/lunch and drink plenty of water.

Everyone wants you to do well, so stay calm, do your best and good luck!

Self-confidence is the first requisite to great undertakings.
