RGS Provider Access Policy
Redland Green School: Provider Access Policy
Introduction: This policy statement sets out the school’s arrangements for managing the access of providers to the school for the purpose of giving them information about the provider’s education or training offer. This complies with the school’s legal obligations under Section 42B of the Education Act 1997.
Pupil Entitlement:
All pupils in years 8 to 13 are entitled:
• to find out about technical education qualifications and apprenticeships opportunities, as part of a careers programme which provides information on the full range of education and training options available at each transition point;
• to hear from a range of local providers about the opportunities they offer, including technical education and apprenticeships – through options events, assemblies and group discussions and taster events;
• to understand how to make applications for the full range of academic and technical courses.
For pupils of compulsory school age these encounters are mandatory and there will be a minimum of two encounters for pupils during the ‘first key phase’ (year 8 to 9) and two encounters for pupils during the ‘second key phase’ (year 10 to 11). For pupils in the ‘third key phase’ (year 12 to 13), particularly those that have not yet decided on their next steps, there are two more provider encounters available during this period, which are optional for pupils to attend.
These provider encounters will be scheduled during the main school hours and the provider will be given a reasonable amount of time to, as a minimum:
• share information about both the provider and the approved technical education qualification and apprenticeships that the provider offers
• explain what career routes those options could lead to
• provide insights into what it might be like to learn or train with that provider (including the opportunity to meet staff and pupils from the provider)
• answer questions from pupils.
Meaningful provider encounters
One encounter is defined as one meeting/session between pupils and one provider. We are committed to providing meaningful encounters to all pupils.
Meaningful online engagement is also an option, and we are open to providers that are able to provide live online engagement with our pupils.
Previous providers
In previous terms/years we have invited the following providers from the local area to speak to our pupils:
- Ask Apprenticeships
- City of Bristol College
- South Gloucestershire and Stroud College
- Access Creative College
- Bristol School of Acting
- SGS Berkeley Green Engineering
- Onsite Construction
- Circomedia
- Boomsatsuma
- Bristol City Community Trust (Robins Foundation)
- British Army Careers
- Focus Training Group
- Robins Foundation (Bristol CFC)
Destinations of our pupils
Last year our year 11 pupils moved to a range of providers in the local area after school
Last year our year 13 pupils moved to a range of providers in the local area after school:
Management of Provider Access requests
Procedure
A provider wishing to request access should contact Ms Yeganeh, Careers Lead, rgsstudentcareers@redlandgreen.bristol.sch.uk
The most common way that providers can speak with our students is through morning year group assemblies, which run from 8.25 - 8.45 and IT support is available for any presentations. Access outside of assemblies will happily be discussed on a case-by-case basis, based on the respective year group's needs and any curriculum constraints.
Opportunities for access
The school offers the six provider encounters and a number of additional events, integrated into the school careers programme. We will offer providers an opportunity to come into school to speak to pupils or their parents or carers. Please speak to our Careers Lead to identify the most suitable opportunity for you.

Careers and Labour Market Information
Good quality Labour Market Information (LMI) can help a young person make career decisions and plan their future. In a rapidly changing local, UK and global jobs market young people can no longer solely rely upon the experiences and advice of their family and friends.
Labour Market Information in relation to careers generally includes information on general employment trends, data on what jobs exists, how many and in which sectors and job types, information on the demand for skill, the supply and where current and future skills gaps and shortages might exist and what job progression opportunities are available.
The National Careers Service produce regional infographics which shows current employment trends, they do this every three months. These are easy to use resources with students.
The Careerometer uses national LMI data to provide information on how a specific job will grow. Students can compare up to three jobs:

Assessing and measuring the impact of the careers programme on students, including destination data
We use a variety of sources to measure the impact of our careers work:
Student destination data
2023/24 destination figures can be found here
2022/23 destination figures can be found here
2021/22 destination figures can be found here
Future Skills Questionnaire
We have implemented the Future Skills Questionnaire (FSQ) which is a tool to measure learners’ career-readiness as they start secondary school and at points of transition across secondary education. FSQ covers key aspects of knowledge, skills and attitudes that are important for successful transitions. This will help us evaluate the school’s careers programme, plan future careers activities and target learners who may need additional support.
The Local Governing Body will be kept up to date with progress throughout the year. All of the data will be collated and an annual report given to Governors and will be published on our website.
